Here's a breakdown of the most common meanings associated with the moon:

  • Cycles & Rhythms of Life - The moon cycling through her phases represents the natural ebb and flow of life and the rhythms of time.

  • Transformation & Growth - As the moon waxes from new to full, then wanes back to new again, she has become a symbol of constant change, transformation, rebirth and stages of growth.

  • Femininity - The moon has long been a goddess symbol, an icon of feminine energy with her soft glow & nurturing nature. The moon is associated with many female deities, one of the most common goddess representations being the Maiden, Mother & Crone, representing the waxing, full & waning phases.

Moon Phases

The entire moon cycle unfolds over aproximately 29.5 days. This is referred to as a lunar month. Within that cycle there are 8 main phases. Each phase has it's own unique energy & correspondences that align with the energy of that phase. Here's a breakdown of the lunar cycle:


New Moon

This moon is dark, in shadow, with no illumination from the sun.


This is a time of rest, renewal, rebirth and fresh starts. In this phase, focus on self care, setting intentions, new beginnings and planting metaphorical seeds for the upcoming cycle.


Waxing Crescent

This moon is partially illuminated and growing, appearing as a thin crescent on the right side.


This is a time of initiation and growth. In this phase, focus on nurturing yourself, begin to take aligned action on the intentions you set at the new moon, establish roots and build a foundation.


First Quarter

This moon is half illumitated and growing, appearing as a semi-circle on the right side.


This is a time of adjustment and commitment. In this phase, as the intentions you set begin to manifest, look at where you may need to make any adjustments. Creative momentum tends to peak here, so you may need to give yourself a push and give full-hearted effort to overcome any obstacles and move forward with determination.


Waxing Gibbous

This moon is mostly illuminated and growing, appearing as almost full but not quite.


This is a time of refinement and preparation. In this phase, shift your focus to perfecting and concluding the actions & effort you put into your intentions. Take a close look at your progress & fine-tune all the details This is the last chance to re-work things and make any necessary changes before the culmination of your intentions & all your efforts at the full moon.


Full Moon

This moon is fully illuminated, appearing as bright and whole.


This is a time of harvest, fulfillment, completion, celebration, pleasure and release. In this phase, your creations are birthed into the world, you can see the results of the intentions you set at the full moon and honor what has come to fruition. What you have been working on is now ready to be revealed into the light! Celebrate our achievements and express gratitide for the blessings in your life.


Waning Gibbous

This moon is mostly illuminated and declining, appearing almost full but not quite.


This is a time of release, reflection and surrender. In this phase, retreat from the outer world and begin to turn inward. Reflect on any lessons you learned in the first half of the cycle and what you need to let go of. Powerful transformation can take place here as you release old energy or patterns and make space for new possibilities.


Last Quarter

This moon is half illuminated and declining, appearing as a semi-circle on the left side.


This is a time of reflection & reassesment. In this phase, identify & release any remaining burdens and seek balance.


Waning Crescent

This moon is partially illuminated and declining, appearing as a thin crescent on the left side.


This is a time of surrender, rest & rejuvenation. In this phase, finally & fully release all that no longer serves you and focus on inner healing. Embody faith, surrender to the flow and embrace change as you create space for new beginnings as you prepare to move forward into a new cycle.
